Possible large-scale application
Hey Felix, or Tim, or whomever it may concern,
I'm currently in the design/research phase of a large client project that will involve primarily photo storage. I've been following Transload.it from Felix's blog and while researching prices for Rackspace Cloud and Amazon S3, Transload.it came to mind. I'm mostly curious about two things.
1) A requirement of the project is to support RAW image uploads w/ resized JPEG output. Does Transload.it support RAW images and if so, which types (Nikon/Canon/Olympus/etc).
2) Our estimated storage requirements one year after launch approach 6-7 Petabytes with ~3,000 active users transferring approximately 20-30 Terabytes per month. Do you think Transload.it is up to the task, and if so, what kind of pricing might I expect? Ballpark figures would suffice at this point of the project.
Regards,
Bret Kuhns

1) We support a broad range of image formats, Nikon, Canon, Olympus, etc. should not be a problem. For a full list of supported formats check:
http://www.imagemagick.org/www/formats.html
2) 20-30 TB is a lot, but it should be doable. We admittedly don't operate at this volume yet, but our entire stack is designed for exactly this kind of workload. If you need proof of our capability to handle this load, we could talk about setting up a large-scale test on Ec2 to see if we can handle 30 GB / hour.
As far as pricing is concerned, we can definitely discuss a workable fee.
Please contact me on Skype, my name is transloadit - I'd be more than happy to discuss this in detail with you : ).

Hey Felix,
Sorry, after your response in July, I discussed Transloadit with my boss and
he preferred we develop a system in-house so we're not relying on a third
party.

Hey Bret,
no worries - if you're not planning to support video I think that makes sense for your application. Also feel free to email me with questions if you hit any issues - we love to share!
