Assembly variables in use

I am uploading images via Transloadit and sometimes I want to save the ":original" but other times I want to save a "rotated" version. Thus, in my assembly I want to use a custom variable in the use of my store step. It looks like:
"store": { "robot": "/store/s3", "use": [ "${fields.storeLabel}", "thumbnail" ],... However, when I test this assembly I get an error, "ASSEMBLY_STEP_UNKNOWN_USE: One of your step parameters references an unknown {use: ...} value."

Any help would be greatly appreciated. My workaround at the moment is having two distinct assemblies and instead of deciding the value of the variable I pass, I decide the value of the assembly id. While that is not unworkable it means I must duplicate the filtering and thumbnail steps the assembly needs to do.
